Danny Murphy scored some vital goals for Liverpool including three winning goals at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
He joined Crewe as a schoolboy and recognition soon came his way as he was capped for England at Schoolboy and Youth levels. His full League debut with Crewe came in January 1994.
He quickly established himself in his favoured attacking midfield position before Liverpool and Roy Evans came calling.
He struggled to settle at Anfield at first and was loaned out back to Crewe by Gerard Houllier in 1999 who also let other clubs know about his availability.
In the 2000-2001 season his fortunes at Liverpool took a turn for the better and he was back in Houllier's thoughts as a key player during the fantastic treble season. Danny will forever be cherished among Reds fans for the three goals he scored at Old Trafford, each resulting in 1-0 victories. He also netted a brilliant winner in the derby against Everton at Goodison Park.
However after the arrival of Rafael Benitez, Murphy discovered he wasn't part of the new manager's plans and he moved to Charlton, preferring them to Tottenham where he couldn't be guaranteed first team football. He played 64 games and scored 10 goals for the Addicks before eventually moving to Tottenham on the last day of the transfer deadline on January 31, 2006.
Danny spent only one full season at White Hart Lane before agreeing to join another London club, Fulham, on the last day of August, 2007. Lawrie Sanchez had been the manager when Murphy signed, but he was replaced by Roy Hodgson. The new boss then handed Murphy the captain's armband and he continues to be a key player for the Cottagers.
It was Danny who scored the only goal of the game when Fulham won at Portsmouth on the final day of the 2007-2008 season. It was a goal that saved Fulham's Premier League status and sent Birmingham City and Reading down to The Championship instead.
