Alan Irvine was signed by Kenny Dalglish from Falkirk and one of his best games in a red shirt came in the Littlewoods Cup quarter-final against Everton at Goodison Park.
The Reds won 1-0 and Irvine came off the bench to make a superb impact and his energy down the flanks played a big part in the victory.
All four of his appearances for the club came as a substitute during the 1986-87 season, although oddly enough he did appear in three different competitions! He replaced Paul Walsh at Charlton and Barry Venison against Southampton in the league.
