Turkish giants Besiktas are keen on snapping up Benfica left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo, who had been thought close to joining Liverpool.
The English side were believed to be just one step away from securing the services of Melgarejo on a season-long loan deal from Benfica, with an option to purchase the Paraguayan inserted into the deal.
But the scent has gone cold, with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealing that no signings are imminent at Anfield.
And this has left the door open for other suitors, including Besiktas.
According to Turkish daily Sabah, Black Eagles officials are holding talks with their Benfica counterparts on a similar loan with right to buy deal that was mooted for Liverpool.
Melgarejo is available to leave Lisbon this summer, with Benfica coach Jorge Jesus having a number of options along the left flank.
The 23-year-old has also attracted some interest from Italian Serie A outfit Sampdoria.
